Professional Focus: Counselling and Psychotherapy to assist clients in addressing stress, anger, the symptoms of depression, the symptoms of anxiety and trauma-related symptoms.
I am currently a civilian mental health nurse with the Department of National Defence. I completed my service with the Canadian Armed Forces on 23 August 2021. From my applied clinical experience, I have learned how mental health concerns affect the human psyche and have gained the skills to assist others in working to achieve improved mental health wellness. I am a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario. The foundation of my counselling skills is based upon Person Centred Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and the Tidal Model of Mental Health Nursing Practice. The clinical modalities I am trained with and have experience utilizing include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Throughout my career I have provided counselling and mental health education. One of the highlights of my career has been the opportunity to both assist with development of and teach the Counselling Course of the Canadian Forces Chaplaincy. I have also had the good fortune to teach the Road to Mental Readiness (R2MR) program of the Canadian Armed Forces, which teaches how military members can best maintain mental health wellness and address mental health concerns that occur.
